Description

3 days – 4 open water dives – a new universe at your disposal

Overview Open Water Course Gili Meno

Would you like to have the freedom to dive anywhere in this world? Then the Open Water Course with Divine Divers on Gili Meno is for you. This course certifies you to become an independent diver and dive unsupervised with your buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters. Moreover, the certification is recognized everywhere in this world and is valid for your entire life.

During the Open Water Diver Course you will do some independent e-learning, but of course we also conduct theory lessons, pool sessions and most importantly, four amazing open water dives around the Gili Islands. All our dives take place from a boat to explore our stunning reefs.

During the confined in-water sessions in our swimming pool we will ensure that you have all the skills and experience to be truly comfortable under water. We will continue to practice the skills during the open water dives but also enjoy the beautiful underwater world of the Gili Islands. Two of the of those open dives will take you to a maximum depth of 12 meters and on the other two open water dives we will explore the warm and crystal waters around us to a depth of 18 meters.

At the end of the course you will earn the Open Water Diver Certification.

Schedule

The course schedule is flexible and we can of course accommodate your holiday and traveling schedule. However, in general, expect the 3 days of your course to look like this:

Day 1 (08:30 – 13:30)

  • First theory lessons, learn about the equipment and diving in general
  • Jump in the pool for your first breaths under water
  • Meet Nemo on Open Water Dive 1
  • We intentionally don’t plan any dives for the afternoon so you have time to do the e-learning theory

Day 2 (08:30 – 13:30)

  • Enjoy some more theory on dry land
  • Explore the deep end of the pool for some more advanced exercises
  • Prove your watermanship skills
  • Say “hi” to the Gili turtles on Open Water Dive 2
  • The afternoon is again reserved to do the e-learning theory

Day 3 (08:00 – 16:30)

  • Today is all about diving. We will conduct Open Water Dives 3 and 4 and have some fun while exploring two different dive sites around the Gili Islands
  • Oh, and of course the final exam!
  • Celebrate!

It is possible to do the Open Water Course in 2 days as well. For this it it is helpful if you finish the theory in advance.

To enrol into the Open Water Diving course on Gili Meno please check the following:

  • People 10 years or older can start with an Open Water Course with Divine Divers on Gili Meno. All divers up to the age of 14 years will be certified Junior Open Water Diver and there are some depth restrictions for 10- and 11-year-olds.
  • You need to be fit to swim
  • Since the Open Water Diver Course is an entry-level certification, there is no need for prerequisite certifications
  • Not just important for divers but in particular when diving you should be healthy – you will have to fill in a Medical-Statement but you don’t need to bring a diving medical from a doctor. Again, just contact us with potential questions that arise.

Secure your pre-booking discount

If booked in advance with a 50% deposit paid the Open Water Course comes to a price of 6.080.000 IDR. If you would like to take advantage of this pre-booking discount please contact us directly per email. Please note, the deposit needs to arrive on our bank account before you arrive on the island, otherwise it is not a pre-booking discount. LOL

Plans change. We know that too. Our cancellation policy is flexible and we are trying our best to meet your holiday schedule and potential interruptions of it. If you book a course in advance but you are then unable to do it because you get sick, we will reimburse you of course minus the transaction details.

We can only send you the login details for the eLearning packages once you have paid the full course or a deposit in advance. In the (hopefully unlikely) event that you can’t start the course as planned, you will get of course more time to make it to the island and if even that isn’t going to happen, you will still have the theory and can use that at another dive center at a later stage in your life (within one year).

Can I try scuba diving before signing up for the course?

You certainly can! If you don’t know if diving is really for you, you can also simply start with a Discover or Introduction Dive. In effect, your introduction to diving is the same as the first part of the Open Water Course. We will teach you some theory, jump into the swimming pool to practice some skills and top off the adventure with a visit to Nemo & Co. If you liked the Discover Scuba Diving program and your first Open Water Dive, you can simply continue with the Open Water Course with no financial disadvantage. You will be charged the Open Water Course only.

Can I do the theory online before I arrive on Gili Meno?

Yes! Once you have paid for the course and you would like to already start with your diving course, we can help you to get access to the theory online. Please send us your email address, name and date of birth. Once we have registered you on the PADI system, you will receive an email with which you can create an account. After that please download the PADI app and start your studies. The e-learning includes all knowledge reviews as well as the exam.

Is the theory difficult?

VERY! 🙂 Kidding! The theory is divided into different chapters and each chapter is accompanied by questions, knowledge reviews and/or quizzes. At the same time your instructor will explain the dive theory during theory sessions. He/she will prepare you well for the final exam so you will just cruise through it. In the unlikely event of you failing the exam, your instructor will review the theory with you again and work on your weaknesses and you will redo the exam (a different one).

What is confined water and what will I do there?

We conduct our training in our own training pool behind our dive center on Gili Meno. You and your instructor will practice all required exercises together. Your instructor will explain the skills on the surface and demonstrates them before you will perform them yourself.

What will I learn on the open water dives on Gili Meno?

The fun part are the open water dives which you will do here on the Gili Islands. You will experience different dive sites at different depths and also repeat a certain skill set that you have already learned during the confined sessions. The skills will take up five to ten minutes of your dive time but most of your time underwater will be spend exploring. The first two open water dives are limited to a depth of 12 meters and the final two dives will take you to a maximum of 18 meters. After the dives we will take some time to log your dives and learn about the fish you have met.

How long will my certification last?

The PADI Open Water Certification is for your entire life! There is no expiry date to the certification itself but it’s highly recommended that you keep in practice by just going diving. There are certainly worse things in life.. If you haven’t dived in a while, it might be wise to refresh your skills on a Refresher or Scuba Tune Up Dive with an instructor. Continuing your scuba education with an advanced course is also a great way to keep your skills fresh and up to date.

Do I need to change a junior certification?

No, once you or your child turns 15 the certification automatically counts as a “normal” adult certification. However, if you wish to change it, just contact the diving agency and they will be able to remove the “junior” part of it.

What if I have health issues?

There are some serious conditions such as epilepsy, active asthma, emphysema, heart disease or haemophilia that could prohibit any diving activity. Please refer to attached medical questionnaire to check if you are not sure:  Diver-Medical-Questionnaire

If you answer any of the questions with “yes” on page number 1, then please check the related box on page number 2. If you have to put another yes there, then you need to see a doctor to get a fit for diving certificate. There are also doctors on the Gili Islands that can examine you and issue this certificate, so don’t worry if you didn’t check the medical form beforehand.

What’s the difference between PADI and SSI?

If you are interested in getting your scuba diving certification, you’ve probably come across PADI and SSI, the two major training agencies in the world. But is there a big difference or is one better than the other?

Instructors of both agencies will teach you how to be a skilled diver, as there is a certain skill set that every diver needs to have. Therefore, all diving agencies follow a legal framework laid down by the World Recreational Scuba Diving Council. The training agencies also accept each other; hence you could do an Open Water Course with the one and an Advanced Course with the other agency.

The main difference is in the theoretical education, requirements and certification costs. And of course, much comes down to personal preferences and other factors such as the teaching skills of your instructor and the conditions of the water.

We have decided to offer PADI courses even though most of our instructors can teach both PADI and SSI.

Why should I do a diving course on Gili Meno?

Postcard-like white sandy beaches, azure and year-round warm waters (28 to 29 degrees), the reef on your doorstep and a great lifestyle – does this sound like paradise to you? To us it does! The Gilis are known as the turtle capital in the world – rightfully so, because both green and hawksbill turtles are abundant. Reef sharks are also frequently spotted and there is a broad range of marine life to be met on all dives. The dive sites are rarely more than a 15-minute boat ride away and diving is great all year round. The dry season is running from April to November and the rainy season from December to March. Rainy season sounds more extreme than it actually is because it hardly ever rains an entire day – expect showers at different severity but therefore less people.

Why should I choose Divine Divers?

We love what we do and we do it well! We have been in the game for over 10 years as Divine Divers on Gili Meno but our love for diving didn’t start there. Being passionate divers ourself, we have dived all over the world. Sometimes you come to dive centers that just have the little extra. A place you enter and you just feel at home. Being surrounded by likeminded people in a chill yet professional atmosphere. This is exactly what we had in mind when setting up Divine Divers – and we are proud that we still call this special place on this wonderful island our home. Overall, our main differentiator is our personal approach – and of course our location at the most perfect sunset point on the island. What better way is there to end a perfect diving day than watching the sun kissing the ocean.

Apart from that our groups are small and our instructors hand chosen for their personality and excellent teaching records. Safety is our primary concern; our equipment is in excellent order and of course regularly maintained. We are committed to offering first-class service and quality dive courses.
