Overview Advanced Open Water Course on Gili Meno
2 days – 5 different adventure dives around the amazing Gili Islands
Are you already an Open Water Diver and would like to take it to the next level? A PADI Advanced Open Water course in the beautiful and diverse waters around Gili Meno at Divine Divers is perfect for you.
With no final exam and 5 dives included, our focus is to introduce you to new types of diving, new techniques, new equipment and new dive sites! Learn as you go, and gain real experience as you develop your diving skills!
After completing the course, not only will you be a better diver but you will be certified to dive to 30 meters. We want you to pursue your underwater passions and interests; you choose what adventure dives you want to do from over 10 different specialties! This course is taught in line with PADI standards, so a deep dive and a navigation dive is mandatory.
Many divers complete their Advanced Open Water Course right after completing their Open Water Course. This is a great option as you have the opportunity to continue learning and developing your diving with supervision of your instructor, whilst also logging more dives to gain practical experience.
Choose your course dives here
Below are a selection of adventure dives which you may choose during your Advanced Open Water Course. Think about what you love about diving already, and think about what you want to achieve by completing the Advanced Open Water Course to pick the best adventure dives for you!
Deep Dive (mandatory)
Gain the knowledge, skills and experience to conduct a dive to 30 meters. The physics of diving you learnt during your Open Water Course is most important to understand when diving deep; your instructor will show you how pressure, temperature, colours and the human body is affected by increasing depth. The depth is limited to 21 meters for divers under 15 years old in line with PADI training standards.
Navigation Dive (mandatory)
Embrace the challenge of navigating your own dive underwater, and learn advanced techniques for underwater navigation using a compass. This is especially important for adventurous divers who wish to dive without a guide – you will learn to keep track of your location, make your way back to your entry point, or find dive sites without a visual reference.
Peak Performance Buoyancy / PPB (recommended)
Buoyancy is the most important aspect of diving, therefore most instructors strongly recommend completing this adventure dive. It is a perfect introduction to your course, as the techniques your learn will be used every time you enter the water.
Improve your buoyancy, trim, comfort and control by focusing on breathing, buoyancy, positioning and finning techniques. We aim to increase your dive time by reducing your air consumption, and reduce the amount of weight you need to dive with.
Drift Dive (recommended)
The perfect choice for diving on the Gili Islands, as we are lucky to be able to drift dive year round. Learn techniques on entering the water and diving in a current. You will also learn how to deploy a surface marker buoy and enjoy learning how to dive comfortably and controlled in strong currents.
Night Dive (recommended)
The idea of diving at night can be scary, but diving in the dark opens up a new nocturnal world to explore. We think it’s better to experience your first night dive with an instructor, which is why it makes the perfect addition to your PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course.
Entering the water at twilight allows you to see how the reef changes, with night hunters coming out and the usual fish you’re used to seeing in the daytime heading off to sleep! Light up the world with a dive torch, and learn proper procedures for night diving.
Wreck Dive (recommended)
Wrecks are cool! Fish think so too; they are hotspots for biodiversity and shipwrecks have been used as a way to increase fish life since the 17th century. Their history will make your imagination run wild and they are extremely exciting to explore. You can explore 2 wrecks in the Gili Islands with Divine Divers:
The Glen Nusa Shipwreck is located at Shark Point within recreational diving limits at approximately 28m depth. The Bounty wreck sunk to a maximum depth of 18m and is just south of our house reef. Both wrecks are home to an abundance of corals, shoals of fish and are perfect for completing the wreck dive as part of your course.
Fish Identification (recommended)
For most people, the biggest reason to go diving is to see all the different, unique and unusual marine life below the waves. Knowing what species we are watching, what they are doing and where they live means you will get even more enjoyment from each and every dive as you piece together the beautiful puzzle of the marine ecosystem with more knowledge and more first-hand experience.
You’ll learn how to identify and categorise different species and families, learn about symbiotic relationships and where to find different species so you never dive without spotting your favourites!
Others
Enriched Air Nitrox
A different breathing gas mixture which contains a higher proportion of oxygen and a lower proportion of nitrogen. This allows divers to dive longer on deep dives due to greater no-decompression limits, spend less time waiting on long surface intervals due to less residual nitrogen, and a higher margin of safety by reducing the exposure to high partial pressures of nitrogen at depth.
To take the full advantage of a Nitrox dive, we recommend to combine the Nitrox specialty with your Advanced Course. Earn two cerifications in one go!
Photo and Video
The perfect Instagram post is waiting to be taken! Learn about techniques and skills that you need to take pictures and videos so your underwater footage is more than just a blurry, blue image but a vibrant representation of the universe that lies beneath the surface.
Conservation dives
Chose among a variety of conservation dives: meet Sharks and Turtles and learn about their challenges or Dive against debris.
Search and Recovery
Closely related to the PADI Rescue Diver course, and a great preparatory dive for those looking to progress to that course. You will learn different search patterns, when to use them and the proper techniques to lift objects. Maybe it will help you to recover sunken treasure on one of your dives…
