Description
Overview Wreck Dive Specialty on Gili Meno
2 days – 4 open water dives – explore fascinating wrecks
Many of the world’s best dive sites are shipwrecks. Ships, airplanes and even cars are fascinating to explore and teem with marine life, becoming coral reefs in their time underwater. It doesn’t matter if they are purpose-sunk as an artificial reef for divers, or lost as the result of an event or accident, they are always a fascinating window to the past.
Divine Divers in Gili Meno in Gili Matra Marine Park offers dives at two different wrecks; The Glen Nusa II (a shipwreck) is located at Shark Point at about 28 meters depth next to Gili Trawangan.
The Bounty wreck is found between 8 to 18 meters, just south of the Divine Divers house reef on Gili Meno.
You can also dive the Biorocks artificial reef on Gili Trawangan as part of your Wreck Diving Specialty course
You will gain the knowledge and experience that allow you to see what others might have missed by exploring different types of wrecks, investigating their layout, history and hazards. You will practise specialised wreck diving skills during the four dives with an instructor, to maximise enjoyment and safety on wreck dives including mapping a wreck and special finning techniques.
What you will learn
- How to plan and organise wreck dives while avoiding common hazards: this includes both penetration and non-penetration dives up to 30 meters
- Diving techniques for limited visibility
- Emergency procedures
- How to use special wreck diving equipment and preparation
- Considerations and techniques for entering intact wrecks
Upon completion of this program, you will earn your PADI Wreck Diver specialty certification.
Content and Schedule
The Wreck Diver Specialty course is completed with a combination of theory sessions and four training dives. This means the course is typically completed over 2 days. Your instructor will advise the most appropriate dives for you.
Add-on
We strongly recommend completing a Deep Diving specialty or Enriched Air Nitrox courses before undertaking the Wreck Diving specialty.
This will allow you to dive deeper to access all of the wrecks available in the Gili Islands, and diving on Nitrox will increase your no-decompression time to give you increased bottom time to spend at the wreck and complete all required skills.
If you do not hold these specialties, we are able to teach them alongside the wreck diving course. Just let us know.
