1 day – 2 open water dives – fly through waves, tides and current

Strong currents can be intimidating for many divers, but often bring the best underwater marine life: sharks, mantas and huge schools of fish. To have the best chance of enjoying this marine life, you need to be confident diving in these challenging conditions. Strong current and surge is common on the Gili Islands, so it is the perfect place to become a confident drift diver with the Drift Diving Specialty on Gili Meno!

The fun part of the drift diving specialty

“Go with the flow” and have fun; Diving in currents often opens up a world of new dive sites that often host the most spectacular marine life. Done properly, drift and current diving can be both relaxing and exhilarating.

During the Drift Diving specialty, you will learn:

• An overview of aquatic currents and water movements including their causes and effects
• Techniques for diving a current, staying close with your buddy and group as you float along
• Drift diving equipment and how to use it (floats, lines, reels, SMB)
• Buoyancy control, navigating in currents and communication
• How to check the current
• Making entries and descents
• Feel confident diving in a current

Upon completion of this program, you will earn your Drift Diver Specialty certification.

Content and Schedule

This course is typically completed over two dives in a single day. After meeting your instructor, you will review the relevant knowledge and theory before making two dives in current. Your instructor will advise which dive sites are the most appropriate for you.

Please note, the Gili Islands are located in a Marine Park. Therefore all divers are required to pay a one time Marine Park fee of 100.000 IDR. This fee is NOT included in our prices. We collect it in cash at our dive center on Gili Meno.

Pre-Requisites

To enrol in the PADI Drift Dive Specialty with Divine Divers on Gili Meno you must:

• Be at least 10 years or older
• (Junior) Open Water certification or qualifying entry-level certification
• Be fit and healthy.
• All diving students are required to comply with a Medical-Statement
