Overview PADI Dive Against Debris Speciality on Gili Meno

1/2 day – 1 open water dives – it’s all about trash

Make a difference on every dive! A Dive Against Debris Speciality Diver takes direct ‘fins on’ action for the ocean, collecting critical survey data from any or every dive that can be used by marine researchers and policymakers for conservation efforts.

There is one common misconceptions about the Dive Against Debris specialty course. Many students think it’s “just” a dive where you pick up trash. But one of the many important things you’ll learn during the course is which objects shouldn’t be removed from the ocean. For example, if you find a glass bottle covered in algae, the best choice may be to leave it in place.

Once you know how to do it, reporting the marine debris you’ve collected is easy. The information becomes part of a global database used by policymakers and ocean advocates around the world.

During this course you will learn:
  • How to safely collect non organic waste from the ocean using a meshbag and protective gloves
  • How to summarize and report data online

Upon completion, you will earn the PADI Dive Against Debris Speciality certification.

This course is typically completed over one dive in a single day.
