Become a professional diver and join our 4–6 week Divemaster program on the beautiful Gili Islands. With flexible start dates, our course takes you through structured training in the classroom, confined water, and open ocean. We’ll prepare you for your career in diving—and can tailor the course to your individual goals. Just remember: the more effort you put in, the more you’ll get out of it.
During your Divemaster training, you’ll:
-
Expand your dive theory and knowledge
-
Perfect your underwater skills
-
Enhance your rescue and supervision abilities
-
Gain confidence in leading and organizing dive operations
You’ll be paired with an experienced mentor who will guide you throughout the program. You’ll also gain real-world experience by:
-
Assisting instructors with beginner and advanced courses
-
Helping guide certified divers
-
Supporting day-to-day operations like dive planning, environmental programs, and equipment logistics
Your duties may also include pool demonstrations, guest interaction, sales, and dive site mapping. You’ll experience first-hand what it’s like to work in a professional dive resort—and, of course, enjoy plenty of diving!
By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to lead others safely underwater and handle a wide range of situations with professionalism. You’ll grow not only as a diver but also in self-confidence, leadership, communication, and teamwork—skills that are valuable in any career path.
The Divemaster course typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, but this may vary depending on your current certification level and number of logged dives. At the end of the course, you’ll earn your elite PADI Divemaster certification. It may look like just a plastic card—but in reality, it’s your passport to a whole new life.
Theory
Your Divemaster training will, of course, include a theory component.
This part of the course builds on what you’ve learned in previous certifications, refreshing your knowledge and diving deeper into topics such as dive physics, decompression theory, dive-related first aid, and the underwater environment.
The knowledge development includes self-guided study using textbooks, videos, and e-learning, combined with classroom sessions, instructor-led discussions, knowledge reviews, and final exams.
You can even get a head start by beginning the theory and knowledge reviews at home, in your own time, before traveling to the Gili Islands.
Waterskills and Rescue Assessment
If you’ve made it this far without knowing how to swim—this is where the truth comes out! 😉
As part of your Divemaster course, you’ll be required to complete several watermanship assessments, including:
-
A 15-minute independent water tread
-
A 400-meter swim
-
An 800-meter snorkel
-
A 100-meter tired diver tow
Each task is scored based on your time and/or performance.
You’ll also refresh your rescue skills and demonstrate your ability to successfully handle an unconscious diver scenario—including towing the diver while providing rescue breaths and safely removing their equipment.
And finally, you will take part in the legendary equipment exchange—a true test of communication and teamwork. You and your buddy will swap all pieces of scuba gear while underwater, sharing a single regulator throughout the exercise.
Skill Circuits
One of a Divemaster’s key responsibilities is assisting instructors during courses. To do this effectively, you’ll need to demonstrate core scuba skills to a high professional standard. These skills include mask removal and replacement, regulator recovery, deep water entry, emergency air sharing, and many others.
You’ll be trained and thoroughly tested on each skill in our beautiful training pool—until you can perform them slowly, clearly, and with complete confidence.
Practical skills
Throughout the course, you’ll continuously practice and refine the skills expected of a professional Divemaster. These include:
-
Successfully setting up and managing a dive site
-
Conducting effective dive briefings
-
Performing search and rescue scenarios
-
Mapping a dive site
-
Assisting with deep dive scenarios
These hands-on exercises will help you build the confidence and competence needed to lead and support real-world dive operations.
Divemaster-led Workshops
Some aspects of your Divemaster course will be taught in a workshop setting.
During these workshops, experienced dive professionals will simulate new or inexperienced divers, allowing you to develop and test your skills in a safe and controlled environment.
Workshop scenarios include:
-
Conducting Discover Scuba Dives in confined and open water
-
Guiding certified divers
-
Leading Scuba Tune-up (Refresher) sessions
-
Supervising snorkeling activities
These practical exercises are designed to prepare you for real-life situations you’ll encounter as a dive professional.
Assisting on Courses
You’ll also gain hands-on experience by assisting instructors on a variety of courses, from Open Water to Advanced levels. You’ll be expected to help students overcome challenges underwater and demonstrate strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
Your instructor will guide you in understanding the difference between your role and theirs—but as a Divemaster, you’ll primarily serve as a role model and a supportive bridge between students and their instructor.
The Snorkel Test
After successfully completing your Divemaster training, you’ll face your final (and most entertaining!) challenge: the legendary Snorkel Test.
We won’t give away too much… just know that it’s a rite of passage, and we’re already looking forward to it!
