Diving doesn’t end when the sun goes down! During a night dive, your focus shifts to what’s illuminated in the beam of your dive light. Join us for an unforgettable night dive and discover the incredible marine life of the Gili Islands that only appears after dark.
Immerse yourself in a new world and encounter a fascinating cast of nocturnal creatures. A night dive offers a completely different perspective of the underwater environment. While some fish are fast asleep, others come alive in the darkness. You’ll witness unique behaviors and spot marine species that are rarely seen during the day.
One of the most magical experiences on a night dive is bioluminescence. These glowing plankton-like organisms light up with movement due to a natural chemical reaction—creating a mesmerizing underwater spectacle that must be seen to be believed.
Diving in the dark might feel intimidating at first, but many divers find it quickly turns into a fun and thrilling experience. Whether you’re new to night diving or already have some experience, the Gili Islands offer a variety of dive sites perfect for your next night dive adventure.

What is UV-Night Diving?
Think you’ve seen it all underwater? Even the most experienced divers surface from a UV night dive with a sense of awe. Also known as fluo diving, this experience reveals a hidden world that’s invisible under normal light.
Using a special UV torch, the reef and marine life come alive with glowing, fluorescent colors—almost like diving in the world of Avatar. Corals emit a vibrant spectrum of neon light, and familiar creatures appear in stunning, unexpected ways.
While a standard night dive focuses on observing marine life under a white light beam, a UV night dive transforms the same environment into a glowing wonderland of biofluorescence. It’s a completely different perspective of the underwater world.
Due to the unique lighting and visibility conditions, UV night diving is best enjoyed by divers with previous night diving experience.
Schedule
The meeting time for night dives is 18:00. The boat will depart approximately 30 minutes later, giving everyone enough time to prepare. Expect to be underwater for around one hour, so we recommend not scheduling dinner before 20:00.
A minimum of two participants is required for each night dive.
We schedule regular night dives throughout the week, and if two divers are interested, we’re happy to organize a dive on request—just let us know!
Inclusions
- 1 guided night dive with an air tank
- Torch (either normal light or UV light)
- Full equipment (excluding dive computer rental)
- Boat rides to and from the dive site
- We carry (most of) your equipment
- Small groups separated by experience level (to the best of our knowledge)

Other details
- Discounts are available for dive packages, group bookings, being a dive pro or bringing your own equipment
- Additional fee: All divers are required to pay a one time Marine Park fee of 100.000 IDR. This can be paid in cash at the dive shop upon your arrival.
- Night Diving is for certified divers only. If you hold an Open Water license or equivalent we recommend an Adventure Night Dive
- Divers with very little experience may be required to demonstrate their diving skills on a day dive first
Gili Island Night Diving Highlight
Meno Wall
Located right in front of Divine Divers Gili Meno, Meno Wall is a top spot for night dives. The wall is bustling with an incredible variety of crustaceans, including coral crabs, sponge crabs, and lobsters. Keep an eye out for scorpionfish and even baby cuttlefish hiding among the coral.
Bounty Wreck
The Bounty Wreck is perfect for night diving due to its unique structure and abundance of marine life. As darkness falls, the wreck becomes a haven for nocturnal creatures like moray eels, shrimp, and lionfish. The artificial reef attracts a wide variety of species, offering exciting close encounters in a dramatic setting.
Turtle City
Turtle City lives up to its name—even at night! This site is ideal for spotting resting green and hawksbill turtles nestled among the coral. The calm conditions and gentle slope make it a relaxed and rewarding night dive, especially for those hoping to observe peaceful turtle behavior after sunset.
